ABOUT US

We are a competition barbecue team from Prague, Czech Republic. Our experience with BBQ began several years ago while watching the TV show “BBQ Pitmasters” when Clint, an American expat living in Prague, bought his first smoker to reclaim the BBQ flavors that he missed from Kansas and Texas.  Together our passion moved a step further and we became Kansas City Barbeque Society Certified Barbecue Judges, attending BBQ competitions throughout Europe and the USA.  In 2015 we decided to enter the world of competition BBQ as Bohemian Backyard BBQ.

Happy Smoking!
Clint & Eva Meyer

OUR EQUIPMENT
In competitions we cook mainly on Yoder Smokers pellet cookers. Currently we have been using the YS1500.  Pellet grills/smokers have the unique ability to grill with high heat, or smoke low&slow. They burn wood pellets and the temperature can be regulated with a digital controller.  They are the true masters of versatility.  Yoder Smokers manufactures the most durable and top quality pellet grills in the world, all handcrafted and fully welded in Kansas.

At home we also cook on a versatile ProQ Excel water smoker, Yoder Smokers offset wood smokers, and we use our portable Cook-Air at home, at competitions, or while traveling.  This great little grill burns wood chunks and is the most powerful portable grill on the market, capable of searing steak like a pro.

SLOVENIA BBQ OPEN 2017
Medvode, Slovenia
September 16-17, 2017
Despite nearly constant rain all weekend, we had a great time in Slovenia at the first BBQ contest in the country.  We felt pretty good about our cook, and after the first three categories it was looking like we might pull off back-to-back Grand Championships since we thought our brisket was really good.  Alas, I don't know what happened (still don't!!) but for some reason the judges hated the brisket and gave us our 2nd worst score OF ALL TIME!!!   :o    Only 1 brisket score in 2015 (our 2nd contest) was lower.  So I don't know what the judges were eating or thinking.  It was a good brisket.

September 2-3, 2017
After a rather disappointing result in Vienna, we decided to really practice and work on improving our chicken and ribs, which we had struggled with all year, before competing again.  And it paid off!  At our next contest, a beautiful field in Holland, everything clicked for us, we had tremendous results in every category including a perfect score in dessert, and we ended up with our first Grand Championship!!  What a great feeling.

BREW'N Q (INVITATIONAL)
Burton-upon-Trent, UK
May 26-27, 2017
Based on last year's results, we were invited to take part in the Brew'N Q Invitational contest in the UK, which is a double-header consisting of the invitational plus open contest in which anyone can compete.  This was organized by our good friends Miss Piggy's UK.  Since it was a busy time of year, we flew into the contest and borrowed a YS640.  We did average in the invitational, but since we also competed in the open, we started prepping our meats again for another all-nighter of BBQ immediately after turn-ins!

We were extremely proud to win by a large margin the People's Choice for Dingley Dell pulled pork, judged by the visitors!

People's Choice Pulled Pork:  Grand Champions!
BBQ BULLS CHAMPIONSHIP
Salzburg, Austria
April 29-30, 2017
We are unable to find our scoresheet from this contest, and that explains alot because it very well might be in the garbage.  We felt really good about our turn-ins here, but the judges  disagreed and we left pretty disappointed with our results!  Our pork probably kept us from giving up on competition BBQ right then and there.   Mystery box was veal flank steak and some vegetables.

HARPER COUNTY BULLSEYE BARBECUE
Harper, Kansas, USA
October 14-15, 2016
Our last contest of the year found us in Harper, Kansas while we were in the USA visiting family.  It was a tough one, with some of the top teams in the country there such as Clark Crew, 913 BBQ, Smokeaholics, Fergalicious, Moe Cason, and more.  We overcooked our pork and brisket but we were still pleased with our results, finishing dead center at 19 out of 38 teams.  We always learn alot while competing in the States so we have some new things to try for 2017.  Our boys got to compete in the Kid's Q and had alot of fun with that.  It was a great weekend and great contest, except for maybe the disgusting rental camper :)

BLACK FOREST SMOKE AND WINE FESTIVAL
Millheim, Germany

July 23-24, 2016
A very nice contest in a beautiful part of Germany, but no exciting results.  Nothing terrible and nothing great, just very average.  Lots of work still required to improve and be consistent.  For our chef's choice we made homemade caramel-bacon ice cream with pecan bars, which we thought was awesome, but the judges didn't really agree. But the ice cream DID melt, which is what ice cream usually does on a warm day :)

TONY STONE LOW & SLOW BBQ COMPETITION
Hoofddorp, the Netherlands

May 14-15, 2016
2016 was the first year for us competing in the Tony Stone, organized by the one and only Harry Havinga and the first KCBS competition to be held in Europe back in 2011.   It is a large event, with most of the top teams attending.  We had a great weekend with the boys and were happy with our turn-ins and results.  This time chicken was our top meat, thanks to our practice.  Eva's delicious rhubarb pies took 6th place, and we were thrilled to get 3rd place in our first SCA (Steak Cook-off Association) competition!

BBQ BULLS CHAMPIONSHIP

April 23-24, 2016
The closest competition of the season for us was still 4 hours away in lovely Salzburg.  It was quite a weekend as we had our boys along, slept in the car, and battled rain, sleet, snow, and heavy winds.  In the end we had nice results, but chicken once again proved to be a killer for us.  It seems chicken practice is needed!

MEAT THE EAST
Enschede, Netherlands

March 19-10, 2016
Our season started off with a bang with a good showing at Meat the East, organized by Stoke's BBQ in the Netherlands.   It was a great weekend to catch up with friends after the winter.  Once again the Livar pork from Otto Gourmet turned out fantastic and we managed to get our very first #1 place!!  A very low chicken score kept us from potentially finishing even higher.

This year we had the amazing opportunity to come over from Prague and cook against some of the top teams in the world at the World Food Championships. Some of these teams travel the US, cooking in 35-45 events per year!

The competition site was full of impressive BBQ trailers and RVs. It would be a dream to have a rig like that to cook in. Maybe this is what the competitions will look like in Europe in a few years :)
It was hot!! and humid, but we were set up with a great tent from the organizers, a pellet cooker from Yoder Smokers, and had a chance to go to Tampa to get some awesome meat.

At turn-in time we were very happy with our cook, all went as planned and with the exception of ribs, we felt we improved in all categories. We usually struggle with brisket, but it turned out incredible! Considering the level of our competition, we are thrilled with our results.  We are extremely proud to have the best BBQ category finish out of the international teams - 16th place in Brisket!

August 1-2, 2015
For our 2nd competition we headed way up north near Gothenburg,  Sweden for Smoke in the North.  Located at Flaming Pig BBQ's golf course location, it was a great setting and we camped onsite.  We felt pretty good about our turn-in boxes, but unfortunately the judges did not agree. Once again we did well in ribs and were very happy with a 6th place finish against alot of great teams. We also came up with a 7th place finish in the extra seafood category! Our other entries did not fare so well.

But we had a lot of fun and overall we are happy and encouraged with our results.  The location of this contest and the organization was top-notch, we really enjoyed the weekend and were very well taken care of by the organizers.  It was the perfect contest for beginning our adventures.
